JoyceDeWitt began her stage show at age 13. At 13, Dewitt began appearing on stage. She graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Arts from Ball State University. In the summer of her stock production she was encouraged by the director to apply to UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was granted the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship as well as the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt claimed she did not meet the actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She worked as a secretary during her time at UCLA. DeWitt is most well-known for her part in the show Three's Co.'s run between 1977 and 1984 as Janet Wood. This was an opportunity she was offered after she was cast in the second pilot. She also portrayed Janet in an episode of the show in 1979. spinoff series The Ropers. After Three's Company ended in 1984, DeWitt appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in 1984 after which she quit acting for several years. Acting was her first return on stage in the month of June in 1991 when she played a part on the Noises Off production at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. Also, she played in Spring Fling an episode of 1995 TV comedy. A character that was based on her, voiced by an actress, was in a 1997 episode on Pinky and the Brain. She was in the episode Cybill. The 2000s work of her includes TV shows such as Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special and Call of the Wild.
